From a distance Sovicille seems to be a small island dipped in a sea of green woods. Its name comes from "Suavis locus ille" which means "that lovely place". For sure, it is the more probable one than the Greek "sukon-siconio" - the flower of a fig tree. It was given to the town because lots of fig trees used to grow here. But whatever the name, this lovely town enjoys world fame amongst tourists and visitors, due to its mild climate, beautiful architecture and pleasant atmosphere. It has now become a preferred place to stay in any season of the year.
